An exercise in my SoulCollage facilitators’ newsletter today suggested laying out all your cards and grouping them by common themes or repeating imagery or objects. This sounded intriguing and so I took the 50 cards I’ve made over the last 5 years and began laying them out.

Tweaking some of the groupings, I could clearly see the ones that represent my Community suit (2 people from my life); my 7 chakra Companion animals; about 13 or so archetypal Council members that I didn’t feel any emotional connection to, including many that correspond to the tarot, like the Fool, Death, the Hanged One, and the Lovers; a group of 9 “persona” Committee members, such as the Comedian, the Renegade, my Writer Self, and the Saboteur; there were a couple that showed phases of my journey; and about 9 that showed me in states of “waiting for someone or something to show me the way” (thank you, Pink Floyd) and “in counsel” with other aspects of myself (I assume).

But there was a small grouping of cards I made that seemed to show how I felt, and how I still feel. One showed weariness and another, deep sorrow. But a third one stood out to me today.

When I created this card 5 years ago, I titled it, My Succulent Self. It contrasts a contemplative woman in grayscale against a bright red background of juicy, succulent raspberries. For whatever reason, this juxtaposition needed to be made at the time (such is the mystery and magic of SoulCollage!).

I saw some anger, resentment, and maybe some boredom in her countenance and felt at the time that she was pissed off at being objectified as a “desirable woman.”

Fair enough.

But today, after looking at my many “waiting” and “seeking counsel” cards, I picked up this card and said aloud, “She is so angry!”

As this revelation loosened a stream of tears, I felt the seething below her serene—even frozen—expression. Why is she so angry?

She’s angry because she doesn’t want to be here!

She feels stuck and has been waiting forever for…for what?

Instead of her life being a bowl of succulent cherries, she’s freeze-framed into a black and white existence of weariness, frustration, resentment, boredom, doubt, and isolation.

This is what this card had to say to me today. This is what some aspect of myself needed to express today. Perhaps she’ll have a different message on another day.

Once the emotion was out, acknowledged, and “heard,” the charge had been diffused and I got on with my day.

Such is the mystery and magic of SoulCollage.

Loving the One You’re With http://thedivineoracle.com/loving-the-one-youre-with/ Wed, 15 Feb 2017 17:51:27 +0000 http://thedivineoracle.com/?p=473 I found a blog last night and liked this quote from its creator:

“It is the essayist’s task to say, “This is what I have seen. This is what I have experienced. This is what I have discovered lying along life’s shore, waiting to be plucked from the sands of obscurity, turned and examined, magnified for detail, polished until its inherent nature shimmers in the light.” ~ Linda Leinen

This is what I envision for my own written offerings here—to be a record of my personal experiences and observations. I really liked her way with words, her turn of phrase, and for a brief moment felt a pang of envy wishing I could craft copy like her. Or so many other wonderful writers and bloggers out there.

And then I remembered the post I had written for myself a year ago about accepting my unique voice and offerings and how they—and I—are just perfect as they are.

And so, in this month that celebrates love, here’s my offering on self-love.

SoulCollage card by Linda Tenney

February is traditionally the month we focus on expressing our love for others—partners, children, parents, friends.

We spare no expense in finding perfect gifts of hearts & flowers, jewelry, and dining out.

We spend time, money, and effort in hopes of pleasing our beloveds beyond their wildest dreams!

But what about us? About you? Yes, YOU!

This month I wanted to talk about Self-Love. Yes, I know—even that concept is somewhat of a cliché in “new age” or “awakened” circles.

But the lack of love we show for ourselves is something we all wrestle with at some point, even if we don’t realize it. Because lack of self-love can show up as self-condemnation, unforgiveness, or even projecting same onto others.

My own lack of self-love manifested fully in the last few years as a deep lack of self-confidence, which sabotaged every business and service-to-others venture I endeavored.

From intuitive readings to teaching to jewelry design to freelance writing: I came to realize that my offerings were very different than other professionals, than the status quo of that niche, and I began to view what I had to offer others as “less than.”

Finally, one day after beating myself up yet again for not being as talented as, as successful as, as creative as, I had an epiphany:

I am a unique spark of Spirit/Source/Creator/God/Goddess, and this is how that spark shows up in this world through me!

My style of tarot card reading is very different than other readers and psychics; my jewelry designs are not always “on-trend” and what the mainstream are buying right now; and my freelance website looks nothing like all the latest, hip business websites out there.

They represent me and my distinctive voice…what I bring to the party.

And that’s ok. It’s perfect actually.

I realized I am not “an error” of Spirit because I don’t present to the world like my peers.

Thank God! (or insert your favorite word for Infinite Intelligence here)

I’m perfect just as I am.

And so are you. Just as you are.

So, I invite you to try a little tenderness toward yourself this month…and from this moment forward.

Embrace that part of you that can’t seem to stop engaging in those negative behaviors and self-defeating thought patterns.

Love that part of you that condemns self and others.

Practice radical self-acceptance…and Self-Love!

~ Light up a stick of your favorite incense and breathe deep the sweetest smell.

~ Rub some delicious essential oil onto your pulse points and feel the Heart of One beat within you.

~ Hold a smooth rose quartz stone in your palm as you hold yourself in the highest esteem.

In the stillness, thank yourself for being here as the irreplaceable being of Love that you are.

The Spirit of Giving http://thedivineoracle.com/another-placeholder/ Tue, 29 Nov 2016 15:11:05 +0000 http://thedivineoracle.com/?p=406

Can we really ever give to another without giving to ourselves as well? Perhaps “service to others” inherently includes “service to self.”

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others” – Gandhi

As I sat to write this post, I connected with my Divine Team and asked via the Ask Your Guides oracle cards to please guide me in what I could say about the spirit of giving.

I shuffled, cut, and randomly drew the most perfect card one could receive: Balance…see it for yourself!

Ask Your Guides Oracle Cards by Sonia Choquette, Hay House

You have to love, love, love these types of synchronicities, especially during times when it may seem all is lost and you feel like throwing in the towel.

Just when you need it most, Love comes calling, gifting you with an image of two figures exchanging (giving and receiving) gifts, in a balanced way!

The Divine Teachers’ message at the end of the description for this card says:

“There’s no difference between giving and receiving love.”

That’s an intriguing statement, and so I pondered it.

The balanced flow of give and take in our interactions with others is perhaps one of the greatest understandings we came here to learn.

  • Do we give in expectation that we may receive in equal measure?
  • Do we withhold so that we may give ourselves power over another?
  • Do we believe we can ever give selflessly without getting something in return?

“We rise by lifting others” – Robert Ingersoll

When we give to another–whether it be a material good, assistance in the form of our physical presence, or love in the form of our devotion–we are, in fact, giving to ourselves at the same time.

“Hold on,” you might say, “I’ve given selflessly to another with no expectation of receiving anything in return.”

Nothing?

Not even to feel good within ourselves for our largesse?

Not even to bolster our self-esteem in seeing ourselves as a kind-hearted person?

Not even to ensure we can reap some good karma sometime in the future?

Not even to assuage a sense of guilt if we don’t give of our time, resources, or love?

When we give to another, we always give to ourselves as well. Even if it’s not an obvious result for our benefit, we can’t get around it.

And there’s nothing wrong with that. It just is what is. It’s actually a win-win; a spiritual BOGO, if you will!

Look at the card image again: both givers/recipients are held by the same Greater Being.

Perhaps experiencing giving and receiving at the human level is Spirit’s way of surprising Itself?

One hand plays the role of benevolence and the other, of gratitude; then vice versa.

Give and take…offer and accept…bestow and receive…all in Divine balance.
